SAP and Siemens to Develop First End-to-End Solution for the Education Sector
Software Solution Integrates Business Processes and Content Management for Learning and Knowledge

Munich, Walldorf, Germany

SAP AG (NYSE:SAP) and Siemens Tuesday announced that they will jointly develop and market a comprehensive software solution for educational organizations. Designed for corporate universities and human resource development and training institutions, the solution will offer comprehensive, end-to-end support for planning, developing, implementing, and marketing knowledge products and services. This will be the first solution to combine administrative business processes and processes related to the development and distribution of learning and knowledge material. The new solution will be based on the mySAP.com(R) e-business platform and the SAP Learning Solution. Siemens Qualification and Training will be responsible for defining the specific business processes to be covered.

The cooperation marks a major step into a new market. According to UNESCO, the market volume for education-related services will amount to approximately $90 billion worldwide in 2002.

The efficient transfer of knowledge is as essential to educational institutions as the underlying integrated business processes. The new solution from SAP and Siemens Qualification and Training addresses the special needs of the education sector. The solution facilitates the planning of training courses, supports the design and development of up-to-date content, and relates content to respective business administration processes. By integrating marketing and sales processes, the solution also enables educational institutions to develop new, customized course offerings and optimize technical and content-related support of all types of learning, including e-learning.

"More and more companies recognize the value of knowledge as an important asset. Knowledge, combined with optimal learning processes, increases the flexibility of a company and gives it a competitive advantage," said Peter K. Fischer, general manager of Siemens Qualification and Training. "This cooperation represents an important milestone for us in bringing to the market our expertise in knowledge and competence management."

Peter Zencke, member of the board at SAP AG, said, "Technological progress generates an overwhelming need for specialized knowledge. We must therefore be able to provide our customers with efficient, cost-effective, and readily available solutions for the transfer of knowledge. We are combining our technical know-how and our competence in the area of customer relationship and human resources management with the industry and consulting expertise of Siemens Qualification and Training."

Within the scope of the cooperation, SAP will be responsible for supplying the software, the industry-specific customization and development, and the expansion of interfaces. The new solution will also integrate functionality of mySAP(TM) Customer Relationship Management (mySAP CRM) and the SAP Learning Solution.

Siemens Qualification and Training will provide the definition of fundamental business processes. These include content development, administration, e-learning, education value added services (E-VAS), customer services and workflow, learning methodology, and new learning media.
