Reaction to the Union Budget 2002 by Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine (India) Pvt Ltd
New Delhi, Delhi, India

Srikant Illuri, CEO of Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine (India) Pvt Ltd says: "The reduction of the basic customs duty on imported liquor from the existing 210 per cent to 182 per cent was an expected move. As per the WTO regulations, the rate has been bound at 182 per cent for the current year, and as a signatory, the Indian Government is committed to this.

"However rationalisation of CVD in two slabs and reduction from 75 per cent to 50 per cent for cased products over USD 25 per case though positive, still does not provide for level playing field for international brands."
