Orange Street Selected at the LEVI'S® GREAT INDIAN ROCK Festival in New Delhi
Will Perform in the United States Later This Year at a Major Show
New Delhi, Delhi, India

Orange Street has been selected at the Levi's® Great Indian Rock (GIR) festival conducted in Delhi on 9th and 10th March 2002 and will perform at a major show in the United States. The selection of the band was done by a panel of judges, including Amit Saigal, Editor/Publisher, RSJ, Sam Lal, Senior Editor, RSJ, Levi's® and an audience poll.

Over the last six years the band has given a string of successful performances all over the country. It is the only band in India to have released singles on all Great Indian Rock Project albums produced by RSJ. The band has always created controversy by only playing original music at their live gigs and refusing to follow the usual trend of playing only cover versions of Western bands. Orange Street is also about to release their album "Candywalk" with Magansound and their videos would be on air sometime next week.

Mr Suman Jaya Chatterjee, General Manager - Marketing, Levi Strauss (India) Pvt Ltd added, "Levi's®, the original jeans brand, promotes original talent. Levi's® jeans and music is a quintessential partnership, which has been extended very successfully in India. In our sixth straight year of the sponsorship of Great Indian Rock Festival, the Levi's® brand is taking this partnership to even higher grounds. Just as Bombay Black, the winning band from last year's Levi's® Great Indian Rock Festival, opened for an Aerosmith concert in the US, this year too, the winning band at the festival will play in the United States at a major show. This band will get an opportunity to open for a big act, a dream for any artist. "

The Levi's® Great Indian Rock Festival is India's first such platform for the promotion of original talent in rock music. "In India, the Levi's® association with the spirit of youth manifests itself as the title sponsorship of the rock show. This year too there has been a tremendous response to the festival with over 200 bands applying. Levi's® has always committed itself to originality and individuality and the Great Indian Rock Festival is the perfect medium for this," adds Mr Chatterjee.

The two-day music festival held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi provided the perfect environs, accommodating thousands of enthusiastic rock fans. The Levis® Great Indian Rock Festival ensured the right kind of settings required for such a momentous occasion in terms of mega sound systems and psychedelic laser lights so as to ensure that music lovers will remember the sheer magnitude of the event forever.

"The Levi's® Great Indian Rock project is the only platform in India for Original music," says Amit Saigal, editor/publisher RSJ (Rock Street Journal). "I personally find GIR very exciting as the quality of music pouring in from all corners of the country seems to improve each year - we were supposed to select 8 bands for the festival, but ended up choosing 12 because there was just too much great untapped music! These bands deserve this chance, and the opportunity to play abroad."

The Levi's® Great Indian Rock (GIR) Festival, the project synonymous with original rock music talent search in India, showcased twelve bands from all over India during the grand finale of the nation-wide talent search. These included talented and much-acclaimed bands such as Vishnu (Delhi), After Dark (Delhi), Still Waters (Gangtok), Them Clones (Delhi), Freedom (Mumbai), Bleeding Madras (Chennai), Anupam, The Karmic Circle (Delhi), Buddha's Babies (Chennai), Envision (Delhi), Orange Street (Delhi), Strange Brew (Pune) and Moksha (Chennai).

These bands will also be featured in the Levi's® 'Great Indian Rock - Vol. 6 album, to be released by RSJ Records.

The Levi's® Great Indian Rock Festival supports AIDS awareness and works in close collaboration with Population Services International (PSI). Various activities designed to promote AIDS awareness took place during various stages of the project. Levi's® has always actively advocated AIDS awareness in countries they operate. The Levi's® Great Indian Rock project is one such platform to reach the youth to propagate safe sex and create heightened awareness about AIDS.
