Marconi Partners with NMS Communications to Power Public Safety Communications in Italy
Communications and Recording Capabilities Provide Public Safety and Law Enforcement Personnel with Security "Toolkit"
Framingham, Mass., United States

NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS) Thursday announced that Marconi Selenia, a global supplier in the defense communications sector, has based its Public Security Communications Platform, named SIIC, on NMS' Open Access(TM) platform (www.nmscommunications.com/OpenAccess). Designed to provide law enforcement and security personnel with a multimedia, multi-channel monitoring, data analysis and management system, the Marconi platform provides access to a broad range of security data, including mobile phone calls, video recording and transport, and internet traffic.

With continued worldwide attention focused on security technologies, Marconi has developed a system that leverages today's technology - and anticipates the future. Its platform allows law enforcement and security personnel to monitor, record and analyze information from landline and mobile phone calls, analog, digital and IP communications, and video applications. This provides a unified platform for all intelligence and helps keep Italy's security personnel in constant communication. The company outsourced platform development to NMS' engineers, who used the Open Access suite to build the foundation for Marconi's applications.

"NMS provided us with technical excellence, rapid response and a clear roadmap for product evolution," said Luca Sani, Director of Marconi's Public Security/Police Force Systems Department. "By leveraging their technical expertise, we have been able to offer law enforcement and security personnel a scalable, future-proofed solution that manages and analyzes disparate data for maximum effectiveness and security."

In order to meet law enforcement requirements, the Marconi solution features a simple, intuitive user interface for non-technical users, carrier-grade reliability, ISDN messaging exchange and is standardized on E1 trunks. It is also highly scalable, capable of handling large call volume and flexible enough to handle multiple media types simultaneously and integrate evolving application requirements.

In order to deliver this level of reliability and functionality, NMS developed the product platform, integrating the following components:

-- Open, standards-based LINUX platform with latest components, including DSPs

-- Powerful IN/SS7 capabilities

-- IP and Video recording capabilities

-- Common set of APIs for current and future applications

-- Standards-based hardware that guarantees carrier-grade reliability

-- Comprehensive development environment

"Public security is the first truly rigorous test of converged communications," said R. Brough Turner, founder and CTO, NMS Communications. "More and more applications must marry and manage disparate types of communications. Marconi's offering has met the challenge and demonstrated its reliability on the frontlines."
