Insignia Drives Mobile Device Management Interoperability; Launches Device Management Interoperability Lab
Joins OTA Flash Forum to Promote Global Adoption of Standards-Based Update Technology

Calif., Fremont, United States

Insignia Solutions(R) (Nasdaq:INSG), Tuesday announced it has launched its Device Management Interoperability Lab (DMIL) at Company headquarters. Insignia's DMIL is now executing Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA-DM) interop testing with a wide range of phone manufacturers and other mobile device management technology providers. Insignia will demonstrate DMIL's test processes and results at the upcoming OMA "TestFest" in Beijing, China, being held October 18-22, 2004.

Insignia's interoperability lab builds upon the Company's Secure System Provisioning v2 (SSP v2), a complete mobile device management platform that leverages Insignia's service-oriented architecture to provide an open and interoperable platform for mobile operators. SSP v2 enables operators to remotely configure mobile data services as well as send firmware updates over-the-air based on a variety of mobile management services, all using a single, open standards system that works with any OMA-DM compatible phone. Insignia recently announced that New World Mobility, a prominent Hong Kong mobile operator has an agreement with Insignia to test and deploy SSP v2 for their subscribers.

Insignia also announced Tuesday that it has become a full member of the OTA Flash Forum, whose mission is to foster the worldwide development, implementation and use of over-the-air (OTA) software updates for mobile devices. Insignia began working with the OTA Flash Forum several months ago specifically with the objective to drive interoperability between phone manufacturers, mobile operators and other related technology providers. The commitment to join this organization, which consists of leading carrier, manufacturer and solution provider companies, further increases the Company's role in promoting the widespread adoption of standards-based OTA update technology.

Insignia was a major contributor to the OTA Flash Forum's first best practices document addressing interoperability of OTA device clients and management servers, which was published Tuesday. The paper is available for public download at http://www.insignia.com/interop.

"We continue to drive the industry away from proprietary download and configuration implementations and toward an eco-system of interoperability that is already accelerating the procurement of mobile device management systems around the world," said Mark McMillan, CEO Insignia Solutions. "Our customers can rely on our expertise to help them navigate these standards and provide true interoperability and significant return on investment."

Insignia is also and active member of the Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA-DM) working group, the OSGi Mobile Expert Group, and is an Executive Committee member of the Java Community Process. Insignia's holistic approach to interoperability helps insure the delivery of products that functionally span a variety of open standards platforms.
