Infonet Signs Three-Year Contract to Provide MPLS IP Network Services to Wartsila
Power Supplier to the Shipping Industry Brings More Than 80 Locations Onto Infonet's Managed IP Secure Global Network

Calif, El Segundo, United States

Infonet Services Corporation (NYSE:IN), a leading provider of global communications services for multinationals, today announced a three-year extension on its contract to provide managed data communications services for Wartsila Corporation, a leading supplier of power solutions for the shipping industry.

Under the terms of the extension, Infonet is migrating all of Wartsila's business units in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas to an MPLS-enabled IP VPN Secure platform. In total, more than 80 of Wartsila's business units are being brought onto its new Infonet managed global IP MPLS network, while additional in-country IP networks in Finland, the U.S. and the Netherlands are also being maintained. In addition, roughly 3,000 of Wartsila's mobile workers are benefiting from MobileXpress global remote access service.

Using Infonet's IP VPN Secure with five Classes of Service, Wartsila now benefits from an integrated communications network that prioritizes information flows through its centralized SAP system. Wartsila also expects the integration between its in-country and global IP networks to bring operational advantages and cost efficiencies, while IP VPN Secure's multiple Classes of Service are providing Wartsila with a strong foundation for the introduction of global IP voice/video services.

"At Wartsila, our information systems need to function seamlessly at all times, a goal that we can only achieve using one global provider," said Esa Suokko, corporate IT network manager, Wartsila. "Our new global IP MPLS network is doing just that, providing us improved manageability and better application response times, while reducing the number of bottlenecks in our data communications, all crucial factors to our business."

"Over the past ten years we've been able to provide communications solutions that complemented Wartsila's critical business needs," said Esko Uski, managing director, Infonet Finland. "Wartsila's recent migration to IP VPN Secure is a major step in their continuing network development. Using it, Wartsila is now able to benefit from a flexible, unified communications infrastructure that guarantees high levels of application performance and allows for the on-demand addition of new locations or multimedia services as their requirements dictate."
