Bring Mission Critical ‘Open Mainframe’ Solutions to India
New Delhi, Delhi, India

At a grand launch event, attended by Chief executives and chief information officers from over a 100 leading organizations, HCL Infosystems Ltd (HCL Insys), India's premier technology integration company and UNISYS, a leading provider of e-business solutions, services, platforms and network infrastructure unveiled a unique alliance. This partnership is for ES7000 range of servers and associated hardware and middleware, storage solutions. The Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000, specially designed for large-scale e-business and mission critical applications, is deemed to be the best solution based on its high performance and cost efficiency.

The ES7000 is a Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server that offers mainframe class characteristics on an open server platform. Built on Intel processor technologies, the ES7000 is based on Unisys's revolutionary Cellular Multiprocessing (CMP) architecture. It can be initially configured with eight, 32-bit Intel processors and can be expanded to accommodate 32 Intel processors. When Intel 64-bit Itanium technology is available, these processors can coexist with Intel's 32-bit processors in the same ES7000 cabinet. It is the first Intel based server that can be partitioned to create "servers within a server" executing multiple functions in heterogeneous operating environments within the same system. Besides it also has a comprehensive array of built-in, value added hardware and software extensions, which are unique to this Intel based platform.

Brian Hadfield, Unisys Vice President and General Manager for the United Kingdom, Middle East, Africa and India as well as Managing Director for Unisys Limited, said, "The relationship between Unisys and HCL Infosystems will focus specifically on providing world class ‘open mainframe' technology in India. The combined strengths of HCL Infosystems' leadership position in the Indian market and Unisys track record of high performance ‘Open Mainframe' technology will offer a very competitive solution to our customers. This partnership will also leverage the relationship both companies have with Microsoft and Intel in bringing new generation information systems to India."

Speaking on the occasion, Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO, HCL Insys, said, "This alliance is in line with our Net.Strategy which emphasises on streamlining and integrating our resources around the Internet. Our customers are moving towards consolidation of IT systems with the aim of minimising cost of ownership on one hand and maximising shareholders value, return on equity, and effective management of customer relationships on the other. This alliance with UNISYS will help us to cater to the needs of our customers by offering open mainframe solutions."

The Unisys ES7000 combines the cost advantages of Microsoft and Intel technology with the scalability, performance and resilience available only on large UNIX-based servers and proprietary mainframes. The ES7000 provides an array of mission critical computing capabilities required for enterprise-class e-business. Its attributes include breakthrough reliability, availability and serviceability; unparalleled scalability; simplified system manageability, high performance interoperability. They have the performance and scalability needed to support very large number of business transactions and uninterrupted system availability required to maintain non-stop service to clients. They also enable companies to transform and adapt themselves instantly to serve their markets better anywhere on the globe. In short, ES7000 provide price/ performance leadership for enterprise applications. With its unparallel performance, scalability and competitive prices these servers are poised to transform the economics of the server industry.

With this alliance, HCL Insys will be able to provide both the alternatives available on Intel platform - clustering technology is already being provided through Intel itself and High end, standalone single servers will now be provided through UNISYS.
