HCL Infosystems Turnover for the Quarter Grows at 29 Per Cent Sequentially

HCL Infosystems Limited (HCL Insys), India's premier information enabling company, today announced its unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended March 31, 2002. The company reported a turnover of Rs 351.4 crores as against Rs 271.9 crores in the quarter ending December 2001. The profit after tax is reported at Rs 10.3 crores. The EBITDA for the quarter is reported at Rs 17.7 crores.

The turnover of the company during the previous year ended June 30, 2001 was Rs 1162.3 crores and the PAT reported was Rs 58.4 crores.

Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman & CEO, HCL Infosystems said, "We have focussed heavily on increasing the revenues and market share during this period and have achieved good progress. The margins, though have come under pressure as a result of the current challenging condition. We hope to build upon our capabilities and expertise to achieve a higher market share in all segments."

The company was recently ranked as the number one desktop PC Company for the year 2001 by IDC, in it's report on Indian PC market. According to the report the company registered a 27 per cent growth over the last year and shipped 151,104 PC's during the year as compared to 118,902 PC's last year and had garnered market share of 8.6 per cent. The company continued to consolidate its SI (Systems Integration) capabilities. Traditionally this quarter has been good for the company on hardware front, and as predicted this quarter has been the best so far for PC sales.

In this quarter the company won numerous orders for hardware products and solutions from clients such as Elcot - Chennai, Andhra Pradesh Police, MIT CICS, Andhra Bank, NIC, Andhra Pradesh Technology Services, North Eastern Council States, etc.

For notebooks, various large orders were bagged from clients such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Indian School of Business, etc. Also various models were introduced which would help open the SME and the education market for notebooks. For BeanStalk, the home PC range, a large number of carnivals and shows were held to improve penetration and also new bundling programs programs were initiated to attract buyers.

The company's Office Automation division bagged telecom equipment orders from IIT Kanpur for 5000 lines of MD 110 Ericsson EPABX and 500 lines of ADSL solution (digital service for providing high speed internet access); order for installing Duplo Digital Duplicating solution across the country for income tax department; order for photocopiers from BHEL; order for installing Infocus Multimedia projectors across the state from Karnataka Police; order for Toshiba multifunctional machines from Rajasthan Police among others.

Several new initiatives have been introduced recently, like the India Remote Support Centre, the first of its kind in the country, has been set up for telecommunication products and services to integrate the support services across the country and provide uniform services to all HCL Insys customers.

The HCL call centre is the first technical call centre in India to provide advanced features like Cisco Collaboration Server, which is a chat engine with advanced and unique features like co-browsing and remote application sharing. It can provide services across multiple platforms such as e-mail, fax, voice, web chat, etc.

HCL InfiNet, the wholly owned Internet subsidiary of the company has acquired 30 new corporate clients for implementing Virtual Private Network from diverse verticals like manufacturing, finance and FMCG industry. Recent changes in Governement's telecom policy about VoIP is an encouraging step and would help it offering new services to customers. The recently launched call centre business has received encouraging response.

The company initiatives in Call Centre Consulting have also been started. Under this company helps prospective clients wanting to enter the call centre business with hardware, System Integration, Facilities Management and Training.
