HCL Infosystems, India's apex IT manufacturing and technology integration company, has received MAIT' s Level II recognition for business excellence for manufacturing and systems support, adding another commendation to its fold. Level II recognition is based on the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence Model. The award is in recognition of HCL Infosystems business distinction initiatives in the Indian IT Industry.

With this award, HCL Infosystems (HCL Insys) has now received three major accreditations, the others being, ISO 9001 Certification for manufacturing & SEI CMM Level IV certification for software development process.

"The MAIT Level II recognition is another milestone in our on-going quality journey. It further endorsees the robustness and the quality of our manufacturing processes and our support services", said Mr. Rahul Singh, Manager-Marketing, HCL Infosystems.

The Jury of MAIT recognition comprised of eminent people from all walks of life including, Mr. N. Vittal, Central Vigilance Commissioner, CVC; Mr. Suresh C. Rajpal, President & CEO, eCapital Solutions; Prof. Prem Vrat, Deputy Director (Faculty), Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi; Mr. N Srinivasan, Deputy Director General, CII; Mr. K.R.Palta, Joint GM, L&T Ltd; Mr.T.S Chabbra, GM-Corporate Quality, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd; Mr.A.R. Banerjee, Director - Quality System Certificate, BIS.

EFQM Model evaluates organisations on nine well chosen criterion such as Leadership, Policy & Strategy, People, Partnership and Resources grouped as Enablers and Processes, Customer Results, People Results, Society Results & Key Performance Results grouped as Results. The Enablers criterion are concerned with how results are being achieved. The results criterion are concerned with what the company has achieved and is achieving. In order to gain meaningful assessment, a relative value shown in percentage weights is allocated to each criterion.

By doing self-assessment based on this criterion, the model helps to identify & consolidate the areas of strength and improve the areas of weakness on a regular basis in a planned manner. If this cycle is repeated on a continuous basis, the organisation moves towards excellence and in turn improves its business competitiveness. The model explains how excellent results related to Key Performance, Customers, People & Society are achieved through Leadership, Partnerships & Resources, Processes and People. The model enables the jury to assess the organisation on various broad parameters like the current results, the growth potential; the financial results the contribution to society; the products & services manufactured & supplied as also customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction etc.

HCL Insys underwent a rigorous assessment procedure, which involved submitting application documents detailing how it met the requirements of each of the nine criterion and at the same time identifying their strengths and weak areas, which need improvement. A panel of jurors then evaluated the application documents to check for the minimum qualifying criteria. After satisfactory scrutiny of the documents, a panel of jurors made site visits to around 3-4 locations of the company, to review the scores and decide the recognition.
