HCL Infinet Limited, the new Internet services subsidiary of HCL Infosystems, India's premier technology integration company, today announced that it has tied up with UBS Publishers' Distributors Ltd., one of the largest distributors of books in the country for its soon to be launched portal to sell books online.

The website will function as an independent entity and will serve the growing demand for books on-line. Both the partners with their strengths, HCL Infinet in reaching customers and UBS in sourcing and delivering books, will be able to utilise the extensive business opportunities provided by the Internet". "UBS with its large catalogue listing of diverse titles will help in providing rich content as also the infrastructure for delivery of paper books in the country", he added.

Mr C.M. Chawla, Chairman & Managing Director, UBS Publishers Distributors, added "HCL Infinet with its advantage of national reach and the large customer-base of its parent company, will provide visibility & traffic to the website and UBS - today has the best physical fulfilment capability in the book business. There could not have been a better partner for us in the Internet space."

Mr Rohit Sehgal, Associate Partner, Andersen Consulting, the world's largest consulting firm which facilitated the tie-up, said that " Books have proven to be one of the most transacted item on the net. This tie-up would enable HCL Infinet to provide an excellent choice of titles to its large user base, and would enable UBS to reach a wide audience across the country through this echannel."

HCL Infinet will soon be launching its portal to provide Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business to Customer (B2C) services, e-commerce and related information to its customers. It is also planning to enter the Internet business in India in a big way by launching its ISP initially in 42 cities, making it one of the largest ISPs in the country.
