HCL Infinet, the new Internet services subsidiary of HCL Infosystems, India's premier technology integration company, today announced the launch of its national value added Internet services at a press conference in New Delhi. Initially, launched in Delhi and Jaipur, with rollouts in Mumbai and Bangalore next week, the service will be expanded to users across 42 cities within the next 3 months giving it the largest footprint in the country. The massive task of launching the service in such a large number of cities in a short span will be made possible by leveraging the enormous brick and mortar presence of its parent company, HCL Infosystems.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Saurav Adhikari, President, HCL Infinet, said, "A best-in-class service infrastructure, a vast existing customer base, a great channel and two and a half decades of IT experience. This is absolutely the best combination of components to make HCL Infinet a great e-services provider. Our robust infrastructure is designed for an enhanced user experience both for our B2B and B2C services."

The strategic intent of HCL Infinet is to leverage HCL Infosystems' vast existing customer base and channel strengths both in the corporate and consumer markets and move up the value chain of service offerings, starting with basic services such as Consumer Access, Hosting and Co-location and Virtual Private Networks (VPN) leading to advanced services such as Application Service Provider (ASP) services and B2B digital exchange networks.

HCL Infinet comes with the promise of delivering the committed Quality of Service (QoS) and Committed Information Rates (CIR), backed by its investments in best-in-class technologies. The entire infrastructure is designed for an enhanced user experience and includes a state-of-the-art ATM /Frame relay based network across 42 locations, a centralized round-the-clock customer support helpdesk and a Network Operations Centre to provide pre-emptive customer care. HCL Infinet offers a high bandwidth service backbone, an international standard port to subscriber ratio and fiber optic connections for the last mile at major locations. The entire network is voice-enabled and convergence ready. At the core of this sophisticated infrastructure are high availability servers with built in redundancy. Other unique service features that HCL Infinet will offer through its global alliances are national and international roaming access and a secure payment gateway.

HCL Infinet had earlier launched its horizontal B2C portal that offers rich & varied content. The company has already tied-up with Asian Age for providing news content on the site and UBS for providing books online. The company will soon be announcing several other tie-ups in the areas of travel, entertainment, music etc. with renowned domestic and international players.

HCL Infinet estimates that the B2B market in India will grow from US $ 15 million in 1999-2000 to over US $ 180 million by the year 2002. The company has drawn up plans to invest upto Rs 125 crores and is targeting a subscriber base of over 100,000 within a year. A major share of this is expected to come from the existing relationships of HCL Infosystems with more than 5000 corporates in India. Besides HCL Infosystems has the largest installed base of personal computers in India cutting across the corporate and consumer segments. The service will be available in a wide range of options to suit the requirements of diverse consumer segments.
