FORD IKON WELL AHEAD OF COMPETITION
Sales Soar Past 16,000 Cars

Ford India Limited has sold more than 16,000 Ford IKONs since its launch, and has reaffirmed its leadership in the IKON segment. In the calendar year 2000, Ford India has garnered a 22 per cent market share, selling 14,418 units. The Ford IKON remains the true leader in the IKON segment, which includes all cars above Rs 4 lakh (including the Mitsubishi Lancer, Maruti Baleno, Honda City, Opel Astra, Maruti Esteem, Opel Corsa, Hyundai Accent, Cielo, Fiat Siena, etc.) Ford IKON leads over the nearest competitor by 1059 cars.

In September 2000, Ford India sold 1,817 units of the Ford IKON, an increase of 22 per cent over sales in August 2000. On a cumulative basis, Ford India has seen a remarkable increase of 835 per cent over the total number of units sold in January-September 1999.

In September, Ford India launched the Ford IKON SXi–a stylish, new trendy model designed specifically for customers who have an active and spirited lifestyle and are driven by the desire to express their individuality.

With this new variant, Ford India has the most comprehensive range in the mid-size segment targeted at different audiences across the country. The Ford IKON CLXi offers consumers an opportunity to move up to the IKON segment from a small car, and the EXi is targeted at the youthful executive. The ZXi model is positioned to excite the most discerning and ‘joshful' buyer who wants to express his ‘josh' attitude.

Ford India is aggressively enhancing its market presence and customer reach. Over the last 60 days, new dealership outlets have opened in cities like Mumbai, Secunderabad, Kozhikode (Calicut), Aurangabad and Kannanore. With approximately one new dealer outlet opening every three days, the existing number of dealer outlets will go up from the current level of 51 dealer outlets in 44 cities across India to 66 outlets in 59 cities by the year-end.
