New Delhi, Delhi, India

After taking the Indian roads by storm with its Josh Machine, Ford India today turned the spotlight on two bright youngsters from Delhi, Rohini Devasher and Varun Wadhawan, the two frontrankers who were given a stage to showcase their talent under the Ford Young IKONs programme. This programme is first of the many events planned as part of the IKON anniversary celebrations.

The Ford Young IKONs programme was initiated by Ford India with the objective of providing recognition to young individuals with extraordinary talent, encouraging them to scale greater heights in their chosen area. Rohini and Varun were selected to develop a 'designer' IKON as their interpretation of josh. The talented twosome unveiled their bright work of art, a result of weeks of relentless and enthusiastic work put in by both, in New Delhi today. The designer Ford IKON will also be displayed in select cities in November.

"The Young IKONs programme reflects the youthful spirit Ford India embodies," said Mr John Fink, Vice President, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford India. " Through this programme we have offered a platform to Rohini and Varun to showcase their talent. We also wish to demonstrate our commitment to creativity and innovation, which are unarguably important ingredients of success in any business."

Rohini Devasher, an artist from the Delhi School of Arts, has used the colours of Josh - burnished orange, bright yellow and fiery red to create the designer Ford IKON. She has achieved perfect fusion by using traditional designs on the modern platform of Ford IKON. The centre of attraction in Rohini's design is the geometrical Harappan sun resplendent on the bonnet. Rohini has also created a series of paintings based on the theme of Josh.

Designer Varun Wadhawan, an alumnus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), had the interesting task of doing up the interiors of the Ford IKON. The upholstery was fabricated with a view of enhancing the trendy look of the car, using modern designs and vibrant fluorescent colours. The 'josh' theme is also the basis of Varun's special fashion line up and interior accessories of the car. Varun's designer instincts, coupled with Rohini's painting skills, have made the 'designer' IKON a true eye-catcher.

Worldwide, Ford has been associated with spotting and nurturing young talent. Ford Motor Company commissioned the talented 13-year old girl, Charlotte Church, to sing the Ford anthem in an advertisement which was telecast all over the world. In India, Ford India has supported the young motor racing icon, Narain Karthikeyan.

The IKON anniversary celebrations have begun with the Young IKONs programme. Since its launch a year back, The Josh Machine has met with overwhelming success in the Indian market and has established itself as the undisputed leader in the mid-size segment, with over 19,000 cars sold till date.
