Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

The wait for the international award winner is over! Ford India today announced that the Ford Mondeo is currently available at select Ford dealerships across the country for test drives. Deliveries to customers will begin from December 17, 2001.

Committed to offering only the best to its consumers, Ford India will bring only the high end 'Ghia' version of Ford Mondeo to India. The Ford Mondeo will be available with options of a 2 litre 16V DOHC Duratec Petrol engine and a 2 litre 16V DOHC Direct Injection Duratorq Turbo Diesel engine.

David Friedman, Managing Director, Ford India, said, "The Ford Mondeo has been designed to exceed the expectations of the highly demanding and discerning consumers in the D segment. Our research revealed that these consumers expect the best in terms of quality, performance and features. Ford Mondeo offers all that and more."

Offering many breakthrough features for the first time ever to consumers in India, the Ford Mondeo clearly outshines other vehicles in its class. These unique features include Xenon headlamps with stone impact resistant polycarbonate clear lens, side air bags, six-CD player in-dash, 8-way power adjusted driver's seat, pyrotechnic seat belts with pre-tensioners in the front and three-point centre seat belts in the rear.

The Ford Mondeo will also offer an abundance of features for driving comfort and convenience such as auto-dimming rear view mirror, heated front and rear windscreen, side window demist, electronic automatic temperature control, power windows with bounce back sensor and global closing, rake and tilt adjustable power steering column, cup holders for passengers, centre arm rest with three head rests, lockable engine hood and collapsible pedals.

The Ford Mondeo features also include 16 inch alloy wheels, front and side airbags with driver seat position sensor, all-leather seats and interior trim, all round disc brakes with ABS, independent suspension with a wider track and front deploying head restraints among others. The car will be initially available in three metallic colours of Stardust Silver, Panther Black and Oyster.

Randy Shockley, Vice President - Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India, said, "The good news is that Ford Mondeo will offer an abundance of top line features and fitments for the first time ever in a car launched in India. The great news is that all these unique features will be offered as standard equipment on every single Ford Mondeo consumers buy."

The Ford Mondeo Ghia Petrol model will be available to consumers at an attractive price of Rs 15.56 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the Ford Mondeo Ghia turbo diesel model is priced at Rs 16.79 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Ford Mondeo will initially be available in 20 Ford dealer outlets across the country (list attached). The personnel in these dealer outlets have been extensively trained by Ford.

The Ford Mondeo was launched in Europe in early 2001 and has already won over 29 international awards, including 11 car of the year titles. The Ford Mondeo has also won rave reviews from international auto experts and critics with BBC Top Gear, Autocar and Automonitor from the UK awarding a five star rating to the Ford Mondeo, and placing it ahead of competitors like the BMW X5, Merc C Class, Alfa Romeo 147, and the Audi A4.
